Golf in Kissimmee

By Nigel G. Worrall

When you think of world class golf courses you always reference Augusta National Golf Club, and maybe portions of the west coast and a few tropical islands, but Kissimmee, Florida also has some great golf to offer as well. In Central Florida it is possible to play a new hole every day of your vacation and still not see even half of what this area has to offer a golfer. With Orlando being a short drive away, there are so many courses in your last count you could get to well over 50 courses within an hour drive!

Here's a few in the immediate Kissimmee area so that when you next vacation here you know where to go:

Kissimmee Oaks Golf Club

The “Oaks” in the name of the Kissimmee Oaks Golf Club comes from the large and lovely 100 year old Oak trees that line the paths of this full golf course. This is my local course and this is the place that taught me how to play the game and how to position the ball. With over 15 holes that feature water there's not much room for error. There is a nice size clubhouse where you can grab a bite to eat or a drink after your game, and flexible tee times for you and your party. You can warm up before your round with a twenty position driving range spot.  This is an independent golf course, usually free of the hustle and bustle of resort dwellers.

Kissimmee Golf Club

Just twenty minutes away from the heart of the Orlando attractions is the Kissimmee Golf Club. Located alongside Kissimmee municipal airport (yes, Tiger Woods sometimes flies in and out of here) you can always be sure to see some activity in the sky. This course has plenty of challenges and reasonable rates for the quality of course are part of the Kissimmee Golf Club appeal.  All golfing abilities are welcomed on this course, and there are even affordable lessons for those who need to improve their game.

Falcon's Fire

This four star Kissimmee golf location has been named of the “Top 50 Golf Spots in Florida” and even holds the title of “Top 15 Women Friendly Courses.” Challenging, but not frustrating, Falcon’s Fire has a varying layout with loads of special events.

Falcon's Fire Golf Club is recognized both regionally and nationally as one of the finest golf courses in Orlando. This Rees Jones designed championship golf course and the spacious Clubhouse offers guests a spectacular venue for any occasion. Kissimmee Bay

Nominated as one of America's "Best New Courses" by Golf Digest, this Orlando golf course Kissimmee Bay Country club exceeds the expectations of many.  While there are many golf courses in Central Florida, Kissimmee Bay Country Club club is very much a locals favorite.  Kissimmee Bay Country Club is a semi private 18 Hole Club located just 20 minutes from Walt Disney World,  15 minutes from Sea World, and near many beautiful resorts and places to stay.  Opened in 1990, Kissimmee Bay boasts an 18-hole championship golf course with a complete practice area including a unique water driving range. The Course meanders between dozens of water hazards and some wooded areas normally not found in Florida.  Kissimmee Bay houses its own pro-shop, practice facility, and bar & grille.  The course stretches for 6,846 yards and is a par 71 championship golf course.  The Kissimmee Bay Bar and Grille is tended with exceptional professionalism.

Remington Golf Club

Mystic Dunes

Designed by Champions Tour Player and NBC golf analyst Gary Koch and rated a 4 1/2 Star course by Golf Digest magazine, Mystic Dunes Golf Club is renowned as one of the most unique courses in all of Florida.

With 80-foot elevation changes, rolling sand dunes, mature oaks and large wetland areas, the par 71 course offers two distinctly different nines. The "low country" style front nine is reminiscent of classic Carolina courses, meandering through native wetlands and marsh areas, bordering oak and cypress forests. The back nine features the characteristics of a British Isles links course, with extensive perimeter mounding and pot bunkers, and lush, rolling fairways.

The course also includes several signature holes, 36 bunkers, two holes with surrounding water and two holes as designated island holes.

Celebration Golf Club

Opened in 1996, Celebration Golf Club is an upscale daily-fee resort course designed by the father & son team of Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Jr. The course exudes an atmosphere of beautiful tranquility and fun, challenging golf. The layout is protectively framed by borders of native trees and natural wetlands and speckled with clusters of native oaks, pine and magnolia trees. Featuring strategic hazards and challenging greens this championship caliber course demands accurate approach shots and consistent putting. Sporting five sets of tees the course stretches from 4,933 to 6,792 yards and invites competition from all skill levels.
